What is God Calling You to?
Is there something in your life that you think God wants you to do, that you want to do, and yet seems hard, overwhelming, or maybe impossible? Want to know my thing?
It’s this blog.
A look at the archives shows I haven’t blogged since May 7, 2016. More than ten months. Why have I not blogged for many months? There are a lot of answers… Adjusting to life in a new state, a new home, two children being diagnosed with diabetes, and beginning the adventure of homeschooling. But I could have blogged through all that. I’ve missed writing and feeling like I may be helping my readers.
But I got stuck.
Trial and Error
Almost a year ago, a blogger offered this amazing deal to put together a blogging website for under $10. This would allow me to advertise and post affiliate links to products and services I love, which was not possible on my Abounding Fruit blog.
The new site was set up and I worked toward making the site look good and getting some posts written. And then one day…
Having the Humility to Ask for Help
In December, I thought I was close to having my site back in working order again. But no. My website hosting company sent me a message that my website may have been hacked. Either this was the first time they noticed or maybe it had been hacked again. Whatever the case was, I was done trying to fix it myself.
It was time to either be content with simply blogging on the free site, or make an investment in getting the new site fixed and secured.
After stewing about this for weeks, I finally laid it all out for my husband. He said, “Oh, why don’t you call Kevin. He does my web hosting and you could ask him what he suggests. I think blogging would make you happy, and I’m willing to invest some money in a happy wife.” Why I didn’t talk to him months ago, I’m not sure. (Well, I do. It was pride.)
That was all I needed to hear. The next week, Kevin had my blog secure and ready to use. (Of course, it took me another four months to get my part done!)
Where Waiting Got Me
As I look back over the past year, I get frustrated with myself sometimes that I didn’t pursue that answer sooner. I wonder, did I waste that time?
But while I was waiting and mad and thinking and confused and praying, I gained clarity.
I know blogging is something God wants me to do. I know it’s something I want to do. I know it’s something my husband wants me to do. I know it’s something my friends and readers want me to do. I know it’s something I can create that is permanent and lasting. But I also know, I can’t do it without the help of other people. And good passwords.
So what is your thing? (I’d love to know, if you’re willing to share in the comments.) The thing God and everyone else wants you to do? Maybe you’re already doing it! Maybe you’re beginning or maybe you’re still waiting for the answer. Wherever you are in the process, keep seeking God’s direction, and be patient with His timing because He is working, even if you can’t see it.
I look forward to seeing you more regularly on this blog again!
